Bangladesh’s maverick all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, now in the Caribbeans to play in the ongoing Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2016, is on the brink of acquiring a great record. He is now just one match away from becoming the first ever Bangladeshi cricketer to play 200 T20 games.
Shakib’s CPL team Jamaica Tallawahs are scheduled to play against Barbados Tridents on Monday. The match will begin at 8.00pm local time, 6.00am (Tuesday) BdST. Should the Bangladeshi feature in this high voltage match, it will mark his 200th T20 game.
Shakib has so far played for 15 different teams — Adelaide Strikers, Bangladesh, Bangladesh Cricket Board XI, Barbados Tridents, Dhaka Gladiators, Jamaica Tallawahs, Karachi Kings, Khulna Division, Khulna Royal Bengals, Kolkata Knight Riders, Leicestershire, Melbourne Renegades, Prime Bank Cricket Club, Rangpur Riders and Worcestershire.
In the 199 matches the iconic Bangladesh all-rounder has played so far, he has scored 3165 runs in 182 innings with 13 half-centuries at a strike rate of 123.39. His best T20 knock till date is 86* that he made against Dhaka Gladiators while playing for Khulna Royal Bengals in the first season of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) in 2012.
With the ball in hand, Shakib has picked up 232 wickets in 196 innings with 6 four-wicket hauls as well as 2 five-wicket hauls at an economy rate of 6.74, and the strike rate being 18.4. Shakib’s best T20 bowling came in the first season of CPL when he returned extraordinary figures of 6/6 against Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel while playing for Barbados Tridents.
